This car-free Alpine wonderland lures in well-heeled Brits (on the hunt for the perfect Instagram shot), Swiss purists carving up Sunnegga like they were born on skis (they probably were), Italians sneaking over from Cervinia to compare cappuccinos, and the occasional American who’s “totally going to conquer” the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.

Expect to witness boarders trying not to wipe out in the Gravity Park, while confused newbies ask if the Gornergrat train is the “lift” they’re supposed to take.

We love sipping hot chocolate at Hennu Stall after surviving a black run we definitely mistook for a blue, ogling every corner shop’s chocolate display, and perfecting the art of the ever-elusive Matterhorn selfie.

We're not so keen on losing half a day in the queue for the Matterhorn Express (because everyone had the same early-bird idea), and discovering mid-way through a raclette feast that your wallet might actually need its own rescue helicopter. But, if you’re going to blow your ski budget, might as well do it in sight of the most photographed peak in the world!
